Job Summary
A Chief Engineer is in charge of overseeing an entire engineering department. They lead a team of engineers and technicians as they work on different projects. Chief Engineers work closely with other engineers, approving designs, calculating costs, negotiating contracts, and making sure projects are completed safely and efficiently including Asset Management, Environmental Responsibility, Sustainability, Cost Management, Safety and Compliance and Operational Efficiency
Job Description
Day-to-Day Operations and Maintenance
Oversee the daily operations and maintenance of all mechanical and electrical equipment in the hotel.Ensure that all systems function correctly and efficiently to provide guests with a comfortable and safe environment.
- Department Administration
Manage the administration of the Engineering Department, ensuring smooth and organized operations.Handle the personal management of all maintenance staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
- Assignment of Duties
Assign duties and responsibilities to the maintenance staff, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
- Documentation and Reporting
Prepare documentation related to the Engineering Department and other documentation requested by the head office. Maintain accurate records and files pertaining to machinery and equipment, ensuring easy access for audits and inspections.
- Budget Management
Prepare annual expenditure budgets and monitor monthly energy consumption costs. Develop monthly maintenance budgets, ensuring that the department operates within financial constraints while maintaining high standards.
- Maintenance of Drawings and Manuals
Maintain and update all civil, mechanical, and electrical drawings (As-built) when changes are made. Keep warranty certificates and operational maintenance catalogues up-to-date.
- Health and Safety Implementation
Implement health and safety measures for the maintenance department staff and hotel guests. Conduct regular fire drills, fire safety plans, and evacuation plans to ensure preparedness in emergencies.
- Energy Management
Monitor and manage the hotel's energy consumption, implementing energy-saving plans and initiatives. Conduct energy audits to identify areas for improvement and reduce energy waste.
- Environmental Management
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards. Implement sustainability initiatives to minimize the hotel's environmental impact, such as waste reduction and water conservation programs.
- Safety and Fire Systems Management
Oversee the maintenance and operation of fire detection, alarm, and suppression systems. Ensure all safety equipment is functional and regularly inspected, including life buoys and other emergency tools. Develop and implement safety protocols and emergency response plans.
- Refurbishments and Renovations
Liaise with outside contractors, architects, consultants, and project management teams during refurbishments. Check on BOQs, supplier item lists, and drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
- Preventive Maintenance
Maintain preventive maintenance sheets and logs for all equipment, ensuring regular upkeep and preventing breakdowns.Initiate actions to reduce energy waste and implement energy-saving plans.
- Miscellaneous Responsibilities
Carry out any tasks assigned by higher management. Ensure the cleanliness of all machinery, equipment, plant rooms, and civil structures. Maintain
Qualification and Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree/ diploma or equivalent
· 10 years' experience in hotel operation management, 5 years in managerial position
· Strong technical skills in areas such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general facility maintenance
· Leadership and team management abilities
· Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
· Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices
· Familiarity with maintenance software and systems
