Job Summary

EHS - Quality and Hygiene Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the hotel’s environmental sustainability, hygiene, and quality management systems. The role ensures that the property complies with all local regulations, brand standards, and international health and safety guidelines.


During the pre-opening phase, the Manager plays a key role in establishing environmental and hygiene systems, policies, and procedures, ensuring operational readiness and compliance before opening. In the operational phase, the role focuses on monitoring performance, auditing processes, training staff, and driving continuous improvement in safety, hygiene, and service quality

Job Description

Health, Safety & Hygiene Management

  • Develop, implement, and monitor safety policies, procedures, and practices across all hotel departments.

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene standards.
  • Identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions to prevent accidents or incidents.
  • Maintain records of incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and prepare safety reports for management.
  • Promote awareness and training programs for staff on occupational health, safety procedures, and hygiene practices.


Environmental Compliance

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including waste management, water, and energy conservation.
  • Support initiatives to reduce the hotel’s environmental footprint, such as recycling programs and sustainable practices.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials used within the hotel.


Emergency Preparedness & Response

  • Develop and maintain emergency procedures, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation plans.
  • Conduct drills and training sessions for staff on emergency preparedness and response.
  • Coordinate with local authorities and regulatory bodies for inspections, audits, or safety certifications.


Collaboration & Reporting

  • Develop and implement Environmental, Hygiene, and Quality Management Systems (EHQMS) in line with local and brand requirements.
  • Establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for waste management, sanitation, food safety, water treatment, and pest control.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Housekeeping, Food and Beverage production and service especially Kitchen teams to ensure facility readiness for hygiene compliance.
  • Prepare documentation for statutory certifications and audits (e.g., NEMA, OSHA, Health Department).
  • Assist in the selection and setup of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and eco-friendly supplies.
  • Train pre-opening teams on hygiene practices, waste segregation, and environmental awareness.
  • Set up sustainability programs such as recycling, water and energy conservation, and green purchasing.
  • Participate in risk assessments and ensure corrective actions are implemented before opening.
  • Develop quality monitoring checklists and reporting tools.
  • Coordinate with consultants and local authorities to ensure compliance and readiness for inspections.
  • Work closely with housekeeping, facilities, kitchen, and front office teams to maintain hygiene and safety standards.
  • Prepare periodic EHS&H reports and recommend improvements to management.
  • Investigate incidents or complaints related to safety, hygiene, or environmental concerns and take corrective action.


Qualification and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in environmental science, Food Science, Public Health, Hospitality Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in hygiene, quality, or environmental management within a 4- or 5-star hotel or resort.
  • Pre-opening experience is a strong advantage.
  • Certification in HACCP, ISO 14001, ISO 9001,
  • In-depth knowledge of local health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with audit management software.
