Job Summary

To ensure a clean, safe, and enjoyable environment for guests using the pool and beach areas. The Pool & Beach Attendant provides excellent customer service, maintains facilities, and supports recreational operations. Responsible for maintaining resort swimming pools to meet TBS and Zanzibar Health Department standards for water quality and guest safety.

Job Description

Pool & Beach Maintenance

  • Clean and maintain pool and beach areas, including decks, sunbeds, umbrellas, and surrounding surfaces.
  • Remove debris, leaves, and trash from pool and beach areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness of changing rooms, showers, and restrooms near recreational areas.
  • Support minor maintenance of pool and beach equipment


Pool Management

  • Test and balance pool water daily (chlorine, pH, alkalinity) per TBS guidelines.
  • Maintain water clarity and sanitation, ensuring 100% compliance with local standards.
  • Clean pool surfaces, filters, and pumps regularly.
  • Record and submit daily water quality readings to the Chief Engineer.
  • Ensure pool plant room and chemical storage areas are OSHA-compliant.
  • Respond to pool maintenance issues within 15 minutes of notification.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance for pumps, filters, and dosing systems weekly.
  • Perform backwashing procedures and ensure chemical inventory accuracy.
  • Maintain zero safety incidents in handling chemicals and equipment.
  • Coordinate with Housekeeping and Recreation to ensure guest satisfaction.


Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all safety equipment, such as life buoys, flotation devices, and warning signs, are in place and functional.
  • Report hazards, unsafe conditions, or accidents to supervisors immediately.
  • Assist lifeguards and follow safety procedures in emergency situations.


Inventory & Reporting

  • Maintain stock of towels, beach mats, umbrellas, and other guest amenities.
  • Record maintenance activities and report damages, shortages, or incidents to supervisors.
  • Assist in checking inventory of recreational equipment regularly.



Qualification and Requirements

  • Certificate in Pool Maintenance or Water Systems.
  • Previous experience in hospitality, pool, or beach operations is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of pool and beach safety standards.
  • Ability to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks.
  • Good customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Awareness of safety and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to work in outdoor and sometimes challenging weather conditions.
  • Teamwork, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Basic physical fitness to handle cleaning, lifting, and setting up equipment.
